Centre referee
Controls the bout
Starts and stops the action, gives warnings and penalties, and protects the competitors. The command “Stop” must be obeyed immediately.
Draft — to be confirmed by the referee commission
Every bout is controlled by a centre referee and scored by three corner judges. Safety always comes before scoring.
Controls the bout
Starts and stops the action, gives warnings and penalties, and protects the competitors. The command “Stop” must be obeyed immediately.
Three judges score
Three judges watch from different corners and signal every scoring technique. A point counts when at least two agree.
Flags and hand signals
Red and blue flags show which competitor scored; crossed flags mean “no point”, a raised hand calls the centre referee.
Fair play
Prohibited targets, holding the weapon too long, leaving the area or unsportsmanlike behaviour lead to warnings, point deductions or disqualification.
Before every bout
Helmets, hand, forearm, body and groin protection and approved sticks are checked before the bout. Damaged sticks are replaced.
The doctor decides
After an injury the referee stops the bout and calls the doctor. The doctor decides whether the competitor may continue.
